Picture the Past: Kids and Toys (level 2.5)

                I bet someone has a photo of you.

                Your mom? Maybe she has one on her phone. Maybe your dad has one in his wallet. Maybe there’s a picture of you in a frame at your grandparents’ house. Or on your aunt’s desk.

                Families love pictures. Why do you think that is?

 

                Here are two old photos. They were both taken in Sarasota in the 1890s. That was well more than 100 years ago.

                Look closely. Describe what the children are wearing. How are their clothes different from yours?

                Look at what the children are holding. In the outdoor picture, find the bicycle.

                What do these photos tell you about life in Sarasota long ago?

                Imagine that you could travel back in time and meet these children. What would you bring with you? What would you tell them?

 

                If you can, take a picture that shows your life now.
